JILLIAN ANN Neverland (Emperor Penguin)

DARK, PIANO-LADEN MINIMALIST POP. Jillian Ann conjures up an emotional maelstrom on her debut release, Neverland. The driving force behind the music on this release is Jillian's voice, which ranges in tone from that of a helpless, child-like innocence to barely suppressed rage. In conjunction with subtle piano parts and minimal electronics, this creates an almost lullaby quality to some of the songs, and yet there's almost always a hint of barely contained darkness lurking around the edges, resulting in a dynamic tension that propels the music forward. On "System," this darkness moves to the forefront, combining Jillian's wails with an unsettling piano and menacing ambience to create the suffocating atmosphere of a haunted house. "Little Space" and "Neverland," placed back to back in the middle of the album, give off a sweeter, more hopeful vibe, offering a brief respite from the air of quiet desperation that blankets most of the disc. There aren't many outright beats on Neverland, but the ones that are there are programmed creatively, usually with slight distortion and erratic downtempo rhythms, like on "Never Enough" and "Precious." From start to finish, Neverland is an impressive debut that manages to keep a consistent tone while simultaneously triggering a number of different emotions. ~ Daniel Slaten

Jillian Ann's music is ethereal yet strong. Her voice is appealing and smooth."Never Enough" is an electronica song of self assurance. Jillian Ann's voice weaves in and out of the clicking beats like a siren."System" is a ghostly song with distant murmuring vocals. It could be a Massive Attack remix of a long lost Cocteau Twins demo."Little Space" has vocal like the Cranes' Alison Shaw. The backing is a techno thud."Help Me" is an impossibly moving plea. Jillian Ann makes it beautiful and desperate."Reconnect" is darkly appealing with Jillian Ann's vocal sounding child-like and spooky."Neverland" is a remarkable album.

I listen to music to evoke my emotions and to provoke my creative thought. Neverland continuously did both for me. Every song lead me on a different mental journey. Neverland gets better every time I listen to it. BUY IT...you won't regret it!

Jillann Ann puts out some really good avant pop...

My fave tracks are "Fragile", "Vapour", "Precious"...
If I had to compare her to someone, she comes closes to Tori Amos in her style/presentation of her music...

Jillian Ann is also an artist, model + much more...

I would definitely recommend you pick this cd up...

I started listening to Jillian Ann's music about 6 months ago. I was instantly hooked on her style. Her music is smooth and relaxing most of the time. I just ordered this CD and can't wait to get it. I bought her other cd, Elucido: Beta, and have completely worn it out already. Jillian Ann, Keep up the good work!

------------------------------------------Hi Jillian,

I sent away for the CD the day you mentioned it on your yahoo site. It took only three days to get to me in Australia and I have been playing it ever since. You are such a wonderful talent. I have just been amazed at the CD it has blown me away. Listening to peices on your mp3 did not do justice to what you have produced into the CD.

Congratulations.

I would love to get one of your posters and another copy of your CD with your autograph on it as a keepsake. I am just about to put $US 50 onto your paypal account. If you could be good enought to send me a CD and a poster I would be really excited. I hope you continue to grow in strength and that you always listen to your heart.

Thanks very much,

Your Australian friend,

Regards,

NEVERLAND -Jillian Ann; Review

Avant-Pop? Dark, Piano- Laden Minimalist Pop? I’m sorry; I’m just not hearing the Pop! Avant - Yes! Dark, minimalist - Yes! Piano Laden - Absolutely! When I think of pop, I think Brittany Spears, Michael Jackson, a McDonald’s jingle. Nothing wrong with pop, it’s fun! This goes beyond all that, it’s not just fun, it’s thoughtful, provocative music.

What Jillian Ann has done in her debut album NEVERLAND, is not given use songs that will get stuck in our heads, because they are “catchy”. Jillian Ann has given us songs that will stay in our minds because they make you think! These are songs about life, about humanity, about being human, about being spiritual and about love. Love of life, love of friends, love of being human. This music makes you hear what you are listening to, makes you see what you are looking at and then, it makes you think.

This artist doesn’t just touch your soul; she embraces it, comfortably (not always gently), and then takes it on a little journey. She shows it darkness and she shows it light. But, Jillian Ann is clever; She knows there’s beauty that can be found in darkness. She also knows the weight of light, that there can be can be “kinks” in the shinning Knight. She is aware that Light depends on Darkness as well as the reverse. The “Ying and Yang” of life, humanity, spirituality, love. She finds the beauty in the dark rainy days, the gray days and warns that the sunny, beautiful days may not be all they seem. Kinda’ the way life is not what advertising would have us think!

I think we need to find a new genre for Jillian Ann and her music. How about; Avant, Dark, Minimalist, Soul Embracing, Thought Provoking Music?

------------------------------------- I first would like to say that I would love to give you lots and lots and
lots and lots of ::::::hugz:::::: after watching some of your very
delightful videos. I love that you are very down to earth and that you show
how everything realy and truly is and I know that is what you are trying to
get across and I think your message comes through with much clarity and
purpose.

Secondly,I listened to a bunch of your music on MP3.com and I love that you
are putting everything out there too.I too play piano and I love that you
even included some solo piano tracks which are very beautiful.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE,LOVE,LOVE the track which plays in the background of your
"A Night On The Town in Atlanta "...excuse me for not figuring out the
title, since I know I also heard it on your website....I am delirious from
spending the last 4 hours making my own music...you know how that goes..:)
Anyway...the beat is a wonderful dirty trip hop, downtempo beat and your
voice and vocal effects are stunning and chiling and it's an amazing piece
of music....really and truly.I do not dole out compliments like that since I
have been in and around the music industry for years so belive me when I say
that I find it amazing.

In fact,I must say that I happen to love the darker music that you make as
opposed to the more pop driven . I feel that your voice works better...but
that is just my own opinion and I also know what will sell and I also do
like the more pop-oriented tracks that you have done....

As for myself,I must say that I am very happy to have made your acquaintance
because I too am a musican/writer/just starting to delve into the lonely
world of modeling.

also i have a friend who works at the evansville public library in the music and video

I was feeling kinda down on myself today, letting the bad thoughts crowd all
of the good ones out of my mind when I got home I checked my mail and WOW,
your CD was there! It wasn't supposed to have arrived until Oct 9th.  I was
very excited to hear it, so I cranked my stero up and put it in.  All I can
say is WOW! It is truely amazing! It was fabulous...It is like what, 63
minutes? It felt like only 10 minutes had passed when I got done with it.  I
can't wait to hear more. Congratulations on a great album and my best
wishes, as always, on whatever you are working on now.  Take care, and never
stop loving...

hey,

I received your Neverland cd from Emperor. I LOVE it! Sorry that I have no musical qualifications to give give your work an informed critique.

Your cd is a wonderful precipitator of of my right-brain creative stream of thoughts. That's what I was looking for and that's what I got. I love all the songs but right now Help Me is my favorite and Neverland is 2nd. Higher and Grace are moving up my list fast. I'm sure my favorites will change daily. Welcome to my mind of chaos.

Sorry we couldn't meet in Atlanta when you were here. Hopefully I will have a deal to work on in Manhattan soon. Maybe we could grab some coffee/tea then.

------------other music reviews---------Jillian Ann,

I sit here writing you while listening to "Alarm Call".

Funny how (AND WHY) things happen. I saw your images on OMP. You are in New York and I in California. I never send e-mails to any models outside of California. Never until you. I say, "funny how...", because I always say things happen for a reason, and believe it! Where I currently am in my life right now is exactly where I am supposed to be, I know this deep within my soul. Hearing your music and reading about your past only confirms this very fact. It's tough to explain (but I think you'll understand), sometimes you feel like God is sitting right next to you handing you a message, your soul beaming with excitement, as you know that everything is perfect as it is and that everything is going to be great. Suddenly you feel so at peace and comfortable in your skin.

-------i understand that feeling, all my life it has been a struggle the world trys to tell me to live in a box and forget God and forget truth and that the only way to live is there way---then i find the truth and the truth is exactly as you said above----seek God and truth and all things will take care of themselves-----and as God always reminds me who was creating first ? anyways just a thought-----we will connect someday, there is always a reason always-----God moves over the internet it is amazing-----

I was so surprised to see all the content on your site, in a good way. I appreciate and admire your honesty and willingness to open up to the world. There are very few people like you in this world. People trip out on my honesty and at times I have scared some away. New York is different than California in the fact that most people out here are full of it and themselves. Everyone in L.A. is an Actor and a Model yet none of them have ever had a single speaking role or a single tear. They go on and on about who they know in the industry when in all actuality they know absolutely no one. Everyone uses everyone, but that's okay right! :(

-------the best way to change the world is to do it one person at a time, honesty and being real and love are the only thing that can heal us help us and give us peace.....the rest is a cheap replacement-----let them trip out you are making them feel making them see, i know the feeling my honesty has gotten me in trouble a few times as well but in the end i always came out on the right side, because the truth works when you leave----------
people can help each other
using does no one any good

Your music reminds me that in my creativity is where I find true happiness. I also have been in a lot of bad situations and have made some poor decisions in my life. I am grateful that I have survived each and every one when at the time I questioned the very fact. For the last two years I have been living my dream as a photographer. My creativity flows freely and I am truly, TRULY happy when I am shooting/creating. All the things in my past which I thought were negatives were in fact only positives and have put me right smack where I am now. I needed to go through it all, to be humbled, and to learn to appreciate who and what I am. No more "pity parties" just thankfulness and dreams! You wrote "Dreamers never die." SO TRUE!!! My dreams have kept me motivated through the most difficult of times.

follow your heart your soul
seek that truth and remember you were given the gift for a reason-----dreamers may get sick
weak or tierd
but they dont die
------------------------------

You said you read a lot. I just finished a book, "Excuse me, your life is waiting", by Lynn Grabhorn. That book showed me how lost I had been for about 8 out of the last ten years of my life. I was always a dreamer and a positive thinker, most happy at those times...I just got a little lost for a while there.

we all get lost
we all fall
if we didnt we wouldent be human
---------pain is just as much a part of life as joy

I apologize for the long e-mail. Sometimes I laugh as it appears I write more for myself than for those whom I am writing. I am glad I found you and your music. Someone once wrote, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

very good thought
---------let me know if you want to swap links
as far as the cd's they will be avalible for sale soon----till then download and play away

Keep creating!!!------------------

------------------------------ i have been listening to your music all day while i'm playing around on my laptop. i was just thinking that you remind me of the supermodels EDIE SEDGWICK AND TWIGGY. you know there were quite a few female models who went into the music industry. there's Grace Jones who also modeled and did music and there is Sade Adu also known as SADE.

i think your music is good. i like the project ELUCIDO BETA. it seems like when you and you friend do music together you do very well. i hope that this dosen't sound rude but i like it more when you speak in your music and sing just above a whisper. it seem to be your trademark. not to say that singing loud dosen't work but the whisper and talking can be very effective. i plan on buying some music from you. i do music also but i don't have anything up yet-but i will. i like to think to your music. it sounds like it takes you to a spirit world while your walking down the street or looking outside your window. it's really cool. hope to hear from you.

Sati Kamadeva-------------------------------------------Jillian Ann,

I know I will enjoy it. I've downloaded all the MP3s that you have put up. I am buying the CD to satisfy the need for more, and to further support your current music, and the creation of your music not yet formed.

I burned a few songs on CD so that I could listen to them while driving... sort of in an anticipatory state while waiting for the real CD to arrive. :) In listening to "Epedemeic" in rush hour traffic this morning, the world kind of faded away, and there was this -- I don't know... To use the word "sadness" would be like trying to describe being in love as "nice". It was so many more things than that.. On the road it was bright and sunny, about 70 degrees -- but as the piano continued to play, I knew that it was raining somewhere. Somewhere in that rain, there was someone looking out of a window, someone isolated and alone. Not without hope, not necessarily sad... but... well, "paused". As if their life was a movie, and someone hit pause. And while I was contemplating this, the same effect took over for me, and I was "on pause" until a horn from another car alerted me to the fact that traffic was indeed moving again.

THAT is music, and that's why music is life to me.

If the rest of "BETA" sounds anything like "Chocolate Dope" I already know that I'll enjoy it. I happily await it's arrival.

Again, thanks for the music, and your time.

-Tom--------------------------------------------------
I listened to some of your music on the old website (it seems a long
time ago). I wandered onto your new site today. Like the old one, it
has a big spirit.....so much today doesn't. I find it really inspiring.

I just listened to the 3 tracks you put up on mp3.com of the Elucido
project with David Kirby. It's really special. Really great.

It's a bit weird trying to write this: my life has a different tempo
and it's almost incomprehendible how many things you're doing.

Anyway, my mum is Italian: My dad's Australian. My wife is Polish: We
live in Denmark. I feel half Australian and half Danish now that I've
lived here 12 years. I guess when you travel a lot you become an
independent nation of one. I payed my university fees by playing music
in Melbourne. I don't know, it seems that's the way creative people
are: I can dream music like I can dream shapes. I'm a product designer
- form languages - I do strategic and graphic work too. The way I work,
I help companies to express personality from the bottom up. I hate all
the branding hype: advertising agencies make amazing stories for
companies, but then you get burnt time after time when you find the
real quality isn't there. I also teach post-grad. design students.
That's a wild experience trying to explain what you've been doing
instinctively for 14 years to students. I think I learn more than them.

You wrote that you feel you are in a developmental stage with your
music. I feel the same way with my work. It's a great feeling to be
moving in a completely new direction, but frustrating sometimes as
well, because I know how much I have to do (and how little money I
have). You're pretty amazing, so I look forward to see/hear what comes
out. Good luck with everything.

Take care,
Brett-----------------------------------------hey,
I just finished checking out sum of ur music and i totaly fell in love with the track "sleep"....its just..beautiful...u did a really good job in making it instrumentaly emotional...i really like it.
I have been making some of my own tracks on the program "reason" and they mosty are jungle and drum n' bass. if you do ever come to Toronto..and i sudgest you do (wickid city) i will gladly show you aroud..and we will most definety hit sum parties to show you the music scene here..i have alot of friends who spinn and mc. but honestly i think you have great talent in ur music..its very deep and raw..which is a good thing since now a days most music is so fake.

for ur black book:-------------------------------------Hey Jillian Ann,

Just dropping you a line to tell you you've got a really great sound. It's passionate and dramatic...what artists influence you? You've got a great Portishead-ish vibe about you. Keep the tunes coming and good luck!

Ciao,
Elissa
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jillian Ann,

I stumbled onto your site a few hours ago, and have been there since. I've
listened to your music while reading a years worth of journal entires and
biographies. I know that you don't know me from any other soul sitting 12
inches away from your page, but I hope that my words will still have a
little weight.

I'm not going to tell you that you're beautiful, you already know that.
There is no talent in beauty, it is a gift that you either have or do not.
No, the truest beauty in you can be found in your love for music, the truth,
and your nurturing, dreamer aspect. I love the idea of Elucido, and would
love to see something like that work across the nation. There are sooo many
young artists that have no way to be heard, no way to get their music out.

I love your music. Absolutely love it! "EpedEmEic" is great, as is "almond
butter". As great as they are, "MiniStry" is even better. On the other (or
just another?) side of your talent -- Vocally, your dreamy, heady voice fits
perfectly with songs like "miss you" & "chocolate dope". Very remenescent of
the work produced by Delerium, with a touch of Cocteu Twins... And these are
only a few of the tracks I've heard... I'm still listening.

I am awed by your life story. You have been tested, and tested well, and you
have overcome much. I've always said, "Conflict reveals the self", and you
have certainly had conflict, which is why you're so enlightened. The truth
shall set you free, and freedom is yours. I cannot say anything more than
you already know, or have been told before -- I am not the wordsmith that
you are.

Speaking of -- wow, do you like to write. I feel that I know more about you
than I do some of my closest friends, which tells me I need to work on that
with my friends... It is the reaveling of the inner self that brings others
closer, and in turn, their revelations that bring you closer. With that in
mind, be careful of the weirdos out there that no doubt are drawn to your
beacon of truth.

Which brings me to the second reason I'm writing. In your Wednesday, May 21,
2003 journal entry, there's a phone number under your name (212.696.7814). I
don't know if it's intentional or not, but I wanted to tell you it was there
if you didn't know it was.

Finally, before I go, are you still selling BETA via the paypal link? I'll
definitely purchase a copy if it's still available, as will I purchase
Neverland and Lullaby when available.

Thanks for sharing your story. Thans for sharing your dreams, and your
music. I'd love to add as much to the "soul" of the world.

-Tom

It makes the booklet look like a portfolio, a Fashion magazine.
In a way it breaks the mystical side of the layout.
Great pictures, great thank you list (just too long)
The back of the CD is too empty (tracklist and the crown logo) and the front
has one major flaw : the font used for your name. Kinda hard to read.
Don't forget that the average customer doesn't spend too much time pickin a CD.

Fragile sets the mood. It has a gloomy, dark tone that makes think of a cold
soil. Cold, grey stones as Iceland mountains.
The voice sets a less chilly feeling that may be seen as veins of lava running
through this desolated soil.
It warms up the whole song.
One interesting thing about the instrumentation is the slight distortion of the
piano lines. At one point it sounds like a 6 strings instrument which strings
are 'fretted'./bended.
Beats are discret, doesn't mean to overcome the tune and it perfectly matches
the theme of the song.
It doesn't intend to cheer people up! Maybe too dark for an opening...

Hyp-Gothic may be a good way to describe this song. The slow crawling basses
mixed with a semi-jungle beat confuse the listener at first. The jazzy color of

It hasn't got a conventional structure as it is only verse-verse-verse.

Raindrops echoes and sparkling effects give this song a dream texture.
A childish whispered voice come and goes until the 'chorus' which holds the
song together.
This dreamy piece is like a transition between Track 2 and Track 4

We're back in a gloomy street, probably in 2018.
A Cyberpunk atmosphere that's quite long yet it sets the mood perfectly.
One regret : there is no voice. Just a whispered echo, a lamento, a cry of
despair
that haunts the song.

We're still under the oppresive atmosphere of System. Now the 'voice' is back
and the voice is Angry!
Vapour is a great song. Alternative voice lines with smooth lamento as
background vocals. A beat that doesn't stay still, that provokes some
convultions.
Perfect song that has all the potential to become an hymn

The first joyfull song. Joyfull because of the childish piano theme
and the soft hopeful voice. Its message is quite clear though it is really some
sort of a cesure, a breaking point between the gloomy atmosphere of the first
tracks.

Soothing ballad with butterflies flying all around, not really pessimistic,
more of an
intimate dialog. The few rythm lines are ''counter pointed'' by the backgrounds
voices and
the heavy piano chords. A song between reality and dreams.

We are no longer in the 'sad' part of the album. Rythmics start to become
strong with distorted effects
that may recall Fragile. The voice lines interconnect for a 'holy' effect, some
sort of an avant-pop choir.

Conclusion : Not enough structured for commercial purposes : sometimes there
are just verses, no chorus!
I don't know where you could put the Dance Remix... that'd be really great but
I guess you don't wanna break the 'tension' of the tracklist/playlist that's
really good. Anywayzzz, your debut album is a masterpiece and yes it perfectly
fits into the avant-pop category. Now that I know you used real instruments and
beats I can change my mark on 'neverland', I'd give it a B - for a commercial
album and a A+ for an independant album.
I don't feel like I wasted my money buying Neverland.
Keep up the good work.

JD

I order your album in the begin of august and received it 3 weeks ago. When
I listen it the first time, I will be honest, a lot of tracks seem's to be
hard or long to listen. But I always listen an album 3 times to make my
opinion.

Then I took it with me in England for two weeks, listening it in my car
since I was driving. And after listen it more... find a lot of tracks
interesting and other really good.

Like I said to Rob, I will try to be honest and accurate. But about music,
like I enjoy to says... one could love, then other hate etc... then it's
just my opinion.

Track 1 : Fragile : I think one of the best track of the album, really love
it (and my neighbourh too cos I push the amplifier really high for this
one). The heartbeat ....

Track 2 : Never enough : An harder one to listen the first time, but I like
it ... the other problem to me perharps is your voice in .. I think you
forced it to high ?? maybe I am wrong.. don't know your real voice. Enjoy
the sound effect at the end of the track :) .

Track 3 : Mute : The right name for this song... really cool and relax one
.. I love it too. The background melody is just too cool.

Track 4 : System : Strange track... the music is an envouting one. The
first heard it was really hard to go to the end. I think in fact just the
long long intro for Vapour

Track 5 : Vapour : The logical suite for System. It's hard to listen cos a
lot of changing beat... The voice in the backgroud is envouting one
again... And this track changing completely in the middle to return to for
a cool end. This sort of track is an hard one to listen the first time. but
after an interesting one.

Track 6 : Little Space : My second favourite Track in your album.... the
melody in the begin remember me excellent and old U2 album. I really enjoy
the piano solo in the first side you voice singing in // . The only less is
the strange voice when you sing .. I think a lot of effect maybe to much ??
or due to the multiple voices in // . But this is just an excellent track
!!

Track 7 : Neverland : For the album name.. This song is a cool cool one
too..... like for the Third track. I enjoy it a lot too. A melancolic song.
(just limit to saturation about the level.... using Yamaha and excellent
speeker here )

Track 8 : Help me : My third prefered Track in you album... Just a cool and
excellent track. To be sure I understood correctly the lyrics.. is it
possible to read this one somewhere ?? Cos I want to understand this help
call. I think the BEST track in fact in Neverland album. Always the
pianoooooooooo in background but your voice .... maybe the real one.

Track 9 : Precious : I think I lot of work in this track, a lot of effect
... stop ... changing rhythms.... One of the harder to listen the first
time... but when you listen it several time... you listen and fallow the
melody easyer.

Track 10 : Higher : A very hard one to listen first again due to too much
"tremolo" effect in the piano play background in the beginning of the
song... and too much effects. I think the one I "hate" in you album.

Track 11 : Reconnect : After Higher..... Reconnect is a peacefull track.

Track 12 : Grace : One other excellent Track ... even if the effects
sometime are strange :)

Track 13 : Titleless : The stranger track of you album.... the first time I
listen it ... I was waiting a change in the level or rythme and then don't
listen correctly the piano.
I talked about this one with Rob... Need to push my amplifier very high to
listen correctly and then have a little noise .... This one with a higher
level recording was a pure pearl of piano playing. Of course I love it...
even if I need to have a level for this one and an other for the other
tracks.

To resume my opinion, for a first album I think a great and good job, even
if for a lot of people who just listen a part of the tracks or just one
time it could be hard to listen.
Some Pearl in... The Perfect track to me is "Help Me" and closer "Fragile"
- "Little Space"

Do you made other before ?? Cos you change a lot your voice with effect or
pushing it very high... and I am interesting for more.

Like I promise to Rob... I wrote my opinion not only "it's good or
something like that".. it's not my way of life.... Prefer telling the true
or my real opinion. (now listening again Help me... very louddddddd). A sad
song....

I took time also to read the thanks page with the CD case.... Was happy to
find Cory and Rob near together.

My last remark will be for the next one ..... please try to put your fan
club or internet homepage or email on for those like me who want to send
you opinion or thanks and don't have internet access (it was my case when I
was in England).

Thanks You again to take time to read my mind in this long email (not easy
to read cos incoming from a French one lol).

you have admirators in UK members about your photo work (and maybe music, for that I don't know).

Take care Jillian and continue your excellent work.

---------------------Dear Jillian,

I've run into your website ages ago by total coincidence, and I've been following your progress ever since.

I'm fascinated by your creativity, your beauty, and the depth of your insights. At times, I find myself wishing to be like you. Or having a daughter like you. (And no, I'm no stalker. I live in a happy relationship.)

You are an amazing writer. Stick to that. And never give up. The treasures of the world are made for people like you.

Alex ----------------------dear jillian ann,
okay, so i'm sure you get mail like this all the time, it almost makes me
feel really lame for even writting and not even want to send this. my friend
throckmore was telling me this model girl from nyc was down loading stuff
from him all the time and that i should check out her site. so i did. it is
an awesome site, the photo's are beautiful and the essay's(especially the
vegan one) are really great. i haven't gotten
the chance to read any of the journal entry's yet, but i'm sure
i will find them to be amazing too. you are a truly beautiful womyn
and your passion and honesty for things close to your heart make you
all the more beautiful. never stop being you.

sincerely,
boy gasoline-----------------------Hello. I was searching through mp3.com today for some female pop music
(wanted a drastic shift from metal heh) and was largely disappointed...
until i ran into your page. Your music has simply blown me away. I
don't know how to describe it. I'm totally awestruck. Now I have to
devote 10 hours to listening... and probably another few years
exploring your website. Honestly... I'm speechless.. I admire the
work ethic you put into everything (especially since I don't quite know
who I am or what I want in life). Where did you record this music? Is
a lot of it live? (I'm listening to "A Story About Being Broken" right
now) So much I want to say, so much I don't know how to say, but I
really need to get back to my studies... I have a major test tomorrow
in my Intro to Music Technology class (I'm studying to become a
recording producer/engineer). Keep up the simply amazing work. Is the
music on your CD the same as on the website? How is it formatted (or
do you have multiple CD's, as there's probably no way you're going to
get 10 hours of music on one CD)

You're amazing. Keep up the good work.

Brian-----------------------Hi Jillian,
Keep on your path!
I have been paying attention to your images for a while because of how strikingly beautiful you are. Simply by your presence pictures take on meanings that would otherwise be vacant without you. Nature scenes, city locations, indoor home locations are brought together with you. It's as if the scenery itself is focused entirely on you. Your face has a beautiful haunting darkness and your slender white body is entrancing. Strangely enough to say, your breasts are marvelous. Please don't change them as so many models might. Whomever your clothing designer is they always choose something something that reveals your sexiness and your elegance.
I am starting to listen to your music. It's not all for me but much of it is. Tonight was "little spaces" night.
Good luck
Charles--------------------Just found your pictures on freelancemodels.com. Amazing!!!----------------You write:

"Please hear me for I am fallen. Full of filth. Full of sin. So far from where I need to be. I see you in the skies. Your voice lifts me above all that is within me. Take my body. Make it Yours. Take my heart. Take all of me for without You I cannot be. So many regrets. I cry for heaven to breathe into me, to fill me with the fire, with the desire for I am weak. So I pray. I seek."

all fallen angels send this prayer. you are not alone.

thank you for your courage and your struggle. please know that every act of compassion has value - even if no one knows the good you do, or the innocents you champion.

even a demon can do god's work, and it is the act of standing after the fall, the climb out of the pit, that inspires the very best poetry.

never surrender. always strain to hear the Voice, even if it is distant and often only a whisper to guide you.------Only very rarely do you come across something on the internet which truly
blows you away!

We live in a world where we take for granted people who create images and
write ideas and make the world tolerable, and never seem to heap praise on
their efforts, only scoff at their failures.

Well I am here to add my voice to yours. Scream from the highest point. You
are a true talent!. As a fellow artist, i bend to you're amazing gift.

Please keep up the good work, you're site is an inspiration to me, and you
are also quite beautiful.

The world is a better place for having you working in it.

peace.

Jay

----------------Dear Miss Durgin,

My name is Joe Schmitt. I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I want to tell you that I visited your official website. I understand that music is your first passion, I will get that later, but for now I want to discuss your modeling. It is my opinion that you are the sexiest, most sensual, most exotic, most stunning model on the internet. Now normally I would go into big spiel about a model's looks, but after being on your site, I am going to be more honest than that. I will say that you have the biggest green eyes that make my heart melt, a sweet, full lipped smile and long, lovely legs. You are a fabulous model. Your photographs are both sensual and artistic. Now, I haven't heard your music yet, but I will listen to the mp3's you are offering for your debut album "Neverland". I read your bio, some poetry and a couple years of your journal. You have come along way since those days at camp back in 1993. Your insightfulness, honesty and detail in your writings made me cry, laugh, think and have hope that happiness can be achieved. You are a very special young lady and I wish you the best of you luck in your music/modeling careers and in the rest of your life.-------------------Hey,
i came across your website a few hours ago. im really impressed by your story and all your work. i feel like i relate to you somehow, but i really cant exactly pinpoint how right now, maybe later. oh well, well if you can add my name to your mailing list, that would be awesome. i really like your writings and photography and stuff. its just soo interesting, i think i might just spend a long time reading it. keep up the good work :-)

*lauren*---------------------------Hi there, we talked about music and I believe I mentioned that I had done some work on an industrial project and various other things. Maybe that will refresh your memory. Anyway, I got a chance to check out some of the samples from your CD and the bsides, and I read through your website. I liked alot of what I heard and think you have a really unique vocal style. I would compare it most with the lead singer of the Cranes. When she sings she sounds like a lost little girl and I guess thats what you sound like on alot of your tracks. Have you ever heard them? They are a very emotional and somber band, and there is a pretty huge strain of that in your own music as well. If you havent heard them I would check them out. Especially the albums Loved and Forever. Judging by alot of the stuff you like such as The Cure and Massive Attack as well as Joy Division, whom, and not to get off an a tangent here, but over the last year or so I have come to believe are one of the most original and influential bands ever, besides The Doors, who were a big influence on Ian Curtis, the Sex Pistols, and Nirvana, but unlike those bands Joy Division are greatly underrated. I mean, would you have had Nine Inch Nails or Ministry if not for Joy Division? I always looked at them as the forefathers of industrial with the icy some what mechanical delivery of their music and Ians lyrics about alienation, despair, and hopelessness, along with the feeling one gets when listening to the music that the world or society are bearing down on you and are threatening to rip you to pieces. That pretty much sets the themes in place for most of that genre. Hes like Franz Kafka mixed with Baudelaires Flowers of Evil and set to music. But I digress. So like i was saying about the Cranes I recommend them if you havent already heard them. I am looking to purchase some new gear in the near future and get back into putting together some tracks. Still working on a screenplay but I realy need to play music again in some capacity. Its my first love and she still has a huge place in my heart.
After pouring over your website I realized maybe we should have talked a little more. You have opinions about alot of things and I am sure we would have alot to talk about. Not to say I agree with all of it though. Perhaps I read Nietzsche or Machiavelli one too many times so its kind of made me a bit more, how should I say, existentially pragmatic. Maybe Im just reactionary towards about veganism. Im not saying this about you, but I find it kind of irritating and maybe a bit disturbing the way most Vegans treat this practice as some sort of ideology and hold forth their tenants with a certain dogmatic religious fervor, while judging the rest of us steak lovin folk as heretics, immoral, or just plain rabble. I have a great disdain for dogmas of all type. Closed systems whether its religion or vegetarianism undeneath are totalitarian which restricts free thinking, progress, and variety, and god forbid you told a strict vegan, most of which I imagine or liberal or perhaps marxist, that they act like fascists. Life feeds on Life I think. And Meat is certainly not murder. But this is just my opinion. Dont fault me over it. LOL. I did think it was pretty brave though to share your feelings and experiences like you did, some of which are pretty rough. I had a good friend who was a model and got hooked on smack. Last time we spoke she was helping her dealer peddle it to support her habit. Before that she was a meth freak to keep herself at a size 2. She did the cover of Cosmopolitan and lots of otherstuff before. Damn shame.
But anyway, if you want to hit me back. Maybe we could collaborate some time in the future on something. We have alot of the same tastes in music. Or just put me on a mailing list and let me know ehn your playing out. I would like to see you perform this stuff. It would make a pretty intense show. Take care.

----------------------------Hi Jillian,
I saw your site and find it most interesting and real. I know of you because
we seem to shoot with the same photographers, websites and travel in the
same circles. I think your an inspiration a real breath of fresh air in this
industry. I hope you don't min but I have placed you in my modal links
page.I was hoping you would put my link up on your site as well. I'm an
illustrator/painter/wed designer and model. Thanks for your time.

"Don't just create art, become it!"---------------Hi you Ji,

I'm listening some music you made right now and trying to write you to
say that I love it ,but my cat Mocinha is sleeping in my keyboard
So nice pics... I used to saw your site and now I get a crazy thing, mp3
is the name, I am so tired about news and getting old ,
congratulation for your songs.
A friend photographer, Fernando Laszlo, is showing some pics in NY, some
big bugs, I thing you will like that...
http://www.huagallery.com/main.html
and I have some new painting in my site if you could... I'll appreciate
http://www.robertostelzer.com/npa/paint/painting.html

See you,Jillian,

I'm in L.A. now, just wanted to say hi; also, how does your soul feel? Mine's doing alright, mo'better the closer we get to Soulstice and now that I'm near good friends. How is your heart holding up? Mine seems to always on the mend, but still beats strong. Are you hurting? I hope not. Are you happy (no; really)? I hope so (really).
Yep, just looked at your site for the first time in a while - looks good. I wish I could sit still longer than 20 minutes at a time to check out more of it, though.
Well, I really do sincerely mean those questions above. I read the whole right-hand column of the elucido page, starting with "meet david kirby", sounds like a pretty great guy. You two sound pretty worthy of your mutual goodnesses. I don't know why I feel compelled to take a quick look at your site every, I don't know, 3-9 months, but I do. I do feel like sometime in our life, we are destined to connect, but I don't know how or why. Who knows, maybe we'll be 90 years old and pass each other in the hospital and share some amazing wisdom or something....
Anyway, I do care that you are well, I am happy you feel you are in so much of a better place nowadays than in the past, I am impressed by your site and your music and your accomplishments and your energy, the questions above are of course just copied from your site, but are sincerely asked.

Otherwise, not much to say now, but "Blah, blah, blah," and go to sleep.
Oh, yeah, I too, spent much time as a child at the bottom of the pool, breathless, listening, rising at the last second.....

Have a good night.

p,l,g,

I loved your website. I am about to listen to one of your songs. The poems by you that I read were awesome. Although yours are infinitely better than mine, I sense a kindred spirit.

I'll be back!

bye!

Tommy --------------When I got there I totally forgot about that, you have been busy.
Congratulations on your album, I heard the promo song and loved it,
I really did, I’m a very hard critic and I don’t give compliments
for free, especially not to hot girls who are probably younger than
me. Then I read some of your journal entrys, It’s really cool that
you keep that going on, it’s amazing actually. I admire you for
that, even if I don’t agree with some of your ideas. I’m one of
those hard core optimist that belive we will make the world a
better place, and soon. Then I browsed around, I saw your list of
musicians besides yourself and liked it a lot, I knew and liked a
lot of them so I took the ones I didn’t knew as a recommendation.
It kindda bugged me that one of the only ones you didn’t coment on
was DJ SHAdow, but that’s only because I think he’s the absolute
master. Our taste in music is alike, even tough latelly I have
abandoned electronic music and returned to rock. I hate U2 tough,
and think the best band that I know of is Radiohead (no surprises
there). Nowdays I consider CAKE to be my favourite band and would
never buy a Drum&Bass album, even tough I still go to D&B partyes.
Have you heard Chan Marshal, that girl from CatPower, I love her
and I imagine so do you.
Well, what I was going with all this is that in the middle of all
my browsing it hitted me, you’re really going to make it on your
own terms, it’s amazing. You’re going to be one of those study
cases, you’re making history here, with this site, with your
journal and your music, and your openness. I know you have known it
for a while, but I didn’t realize the importance of all this when I
first saw it.
From now on, I’m gonna be studing you. I hope you take it as a
compliment.
I went back to your site today and saw the new cover. You really
put a lot of time to it, I have been working with websites long
enough to know all the fucking work it represents. The links to the
Neverland mp3s don’t work or you haven’t up loaded the files. I saw
videos today, and heard some more music.

Lots of love from Venezuela,
Amílcar Ortega-------------------------------------
Hi

Take care,
Brett

Hi Jillian

I just made my second visit to your website and felt the need to write you. Hope you don't mind.

I think you are just a very remarkable young lady. The amount of excellent work you have produced in your life would be impressive for someone twice your age. You seem to cover so many areas - music, photography, modeling, makeup, etc. and it seems as if you are still just building up to a full head of steam. At his rate, I'm sure you are going to take the world by storm. I had seen your striking face around the internet for some time and was delighted to find that the owner of that face has such depth and sensitivity.

Jillian, I was touched to read about your personal childhood adversity and your strength in dealing with it. You seem to have been able to hold onto your true self without becoming bitter, totally withdrawn or unable to function. My highest praise to you! I know dealing with such issues is a lifelong process, so I wish you the best in your journey.

Perhaps I am touched by you because I also suffered an intense childhood trauma of a different nature - the sudden death of a loving mother to whom I was extremely close. It knocked my world completely out of orbit and decades later, I still am dealing with the fractures to my heart/soul/personality. I never had kids of my own, so maybe some misplaced paternal feelings play into this too, but for whatever reason, the tears just flowed as I read parts of your webpage. To me, you are extremely heroic.

I know all this is coming to you from a total stranger, but please don't think there is some seamy motivation on my part. I just felt an emotional connection and want to celebrate your triumphs with you.

God bless you Jillian. If you should ever need a nonthreatening, nonjudgmental cyber-ear to just listen to you, feel free to contact me. I'll continue to explore your website and and cheer at each of your accomplishment.

Thanks for sticking with me through this letter.

Danny
--------------You have a very nice web site!
It must have taken you hours and days !

Hello. I apologise for e-mailing you if it disturbed you. I was surfing
the web today and stumbled across your website. I know you're a very busy
woman, so I apologise if this takes up too much of your time. I think you
are amazing. Your beauty rivals aphrodite. You have no fear of sharing
your thoughts, even the most intimate. You care about the world, which is
rare indeed. You are an excellent musician. You have no modesty; you seem
as if you have nothing to hide. You seem so fragile, yet strong, innocent,
yet tempting. I know you must get emails like this one all the time, and so
of course you might just delete it unread. That's fine with me. I just
have to say these things and then I'll be out of your hair. I also know
that you might think I'm crazy or something, after all, how many normal
people e-mail models randomly? Well, I'm not, i'm just a guy who became an
instant fan. Every picture was a work of art. every poem made me feel like
i was with you, like i was you, feeling your feelings. They touched me. I
guess that i'm probably rambling now, and again I apologise. You seem so
accessible, on a level with the public, and more specifically, with the
people who see the problems in the world, with our society. Strange, i'm
actually nervous. Unusual when writing to someone. Anyways, i'll close.
Just know that you are respected and adored by a simple man in the Navy with
some of the same views as you.

-Jeff ========im at a loss for words right now. i found your site while looking for images to practice photoshopping with. i really liked your work and the the high res of the images. i never explored beyond the high res images til recently and i was really blown away. sorry i cant think of much to say right now. id appreciate it if you wrote back --------------Hey Jillian- just wanted to say that I enjoyed talking with you the other
night and seeing you perform. I just checked out your website- girl, you are
busy!!! Very impressive. What gorgeous photos! I only had scratched the
surface and already 20 minutes had gone by. I will have to let the
investigation be a process.
Meanwhile, please let me and Wylie know of any shows you may have- I can
also check the website.
Also, if you have the contact info for the friend you mentioned to me so I
can eventually invite him to my one-woman show, that would be great.
Until-
Bon courage and cheers,
Nadia----------------------------------Dear Jilllian:

What a remarkable website you have. It is smart as hell and generous and challenging at once. Extraordinary. " Not like the others", as Hunter S. Thompson observed in a differant context.

Anyway, I found it moving and impressive as hell. Particularly in these times of devalued human current, see? Thanks for all the good work. It's made my day.

ralph wilson-----------------------
Hi Jillian Ann, I was reading through your blogspot, and I have to say that somethings you say remind me of me. I guess a lot of us cry for the pain of others and feel that this would be a better place if we loved and respected life and each other. I encourage you to keep doing what you are doing and keep engaging people with your music, writting, modeling, etc. you have a great amoint of energy and you are putting it out there so. Rock On! lets change the world.

Hi Jillian,

I met you in the last MiPo splash where I have a micro short story. My
compliments to your energy and your achievements. I am glad to see that you
do not sit in your closet and wait to be discovered ... you are doing it
right. One must be 'out there' tooting one's own horn as few will do it for
you.

Just letting you know that I enjoyed your website and your process. I think
you can do just about anything and everything by yourself and you will go
places. Going places is living life and it looks like you do it rather well
though, thank God, I 'd rather not be in your shoes as mine are pretty worn
by now by my own excursions.

This note needs no reply and is only a brief kudo... the stuff that really
sustains us artists as long as some cash flows in also sometimes.

Good luck.-------------------------------------hi Jillian,
thanks for the introduction last Sunday night w/your friend Ben.
I've been enjoying the creative and mystical aspects of your web site and productions--as well as the generous social introspections you provide. It's all quite unique--really stretches the imagination.
You're very talented--best of luck out there--hope to chat w/you again.

----------------------------Hello

In some web surfing clicking frenzy I come along your
web site.

It is a refreshing pleasure to find people that seek a
creative means of existence rather than confiding
themselves in a prefabricated predestine monotonous
box. I hope you are always able to articulate your
vision with clarity and uncompromising freedom. I
feel creativity and creative people should be
boundless by the constructs of the capitalist rules
that govern our American existence.

In my opinion it is thru the arts the future is
allowed to present itself. And thru peoples
sacrifices for the arts will the tail of our past will
be told.

Fight the stagnatus demons of everyday life and
continue to walk on your creative edge. For your
sacrifice you and the souls you influence will be
rewarded.

Great site

Great music

Great pictures

You have a wondrous vision keep using it.

I took one of your pictures and in Photoshop tried to
make it look like a pencil drawing. If you would like
to look at the picture here is the url.

---------------------------------------I was reading the last days your "blog-spot-log" - hmm - and I have to

positive - but special - and then I found at your page the music-links
and there where also "The Cure" - and I had to think about your
writing - about fear -> cure <-> fear - hmm - I don´t know if you ever
have seen the cure-video where the are all in a falling box - I can´t
remember the songtitle -> fallin´ and not to be able to get out of the
box - I hope you will get out of your box - no I don´t hope - I´m sure
- you will

----------------------------------------About a year ago I decided to start a web site to see if I could get any work as a model. actor, photographer, videographer, and / or what ever else might pay the rent. Everyone that went to my site would tell me that I need to add more content to make my site more attractive, more 'sticky' to visitors.
So, I added a journal, and even a video section. But was that enough? Nope.
I even went out and added a movie review section. But alas, I still wasn't getting it.

Then one day, while surfing the net, I stumbled upon your site.
WOW! At last, a site of substance. A site of art, beauty and passion. A site of raw honesty.
Now I know what my site has been missing.
I have been visiting your site for some time now (It's quite a lot to take in all at once) and am always impressed.

I am also always inspired to be more creative, pushed to be more adventurous, encouraged to be more honest.

Thank you for inspiring me to raise my bar.

www.paulbuceta.com-----------------------I just like the way you post and write and all the variations on your site. I feel some part of me is expressed in your words on your site about life and experiences. Everyone can benefit from such great words. Look forward to seeing you post about anything on the forum. I appreciate you sharing all this great information with the group. Richard

on your web site, only because its not only dead honest, but helpful as
well. You did not fluff up anything, you really brought out the industry in
a precise, clear matter. Good job.

===============================---LATEST NEWS---
I was in Salina, KS August 15-18, 2003 working with David Anderson, and Cristy Corbin, as well as participating in the Midwest Shootout that they sponsored. The Midwest Shootout consisted of a group of models chaperoned by photographers, agents or parents to learn from pro-model Jillian Ann of NYC. ( Jillian was a great speaker and offered to us a great learning experience for safety, makeup, and above all following our dreams to the greatest extents.
The day after the workshop we convened to The Groove Club in downtown Salina for a "shootout" where 8-10 harried photographers spent 12 hours shooting 23 models! It was hectic, chaotic, hard work (especially if you were one of the models trying to do clothing and makeup changes in a 2-stall bathroom with 22 other models LOL) and a lot of fun.
